# About me

I am **Álvaro** [[**al** - βa - ɾo](https://youtu.be/uq-gYOrU8bA)]. I am a software engineer from Santiago de Compostela, Spain. I enjoy trying new technologies and as a consequence I have a somewhat generalist background. However, most of my experience is in Android development.

As a developer, I am guided by the DRY principle and strongly dislike duplication of both code and work. Partly due to this, I am proactive about **automating** tasks and processes whenever I can. This is something I apply in my daily work by authoring scripts, containers, CI and tooling config, etc. Several of my published [repos](https://github.com/alvarobrey) also focus on automation or developer experience.

I am also an advocate for **open-source** software. A significant part of my career has been spent working on open-source projects, and I also [publish most of my personal projects](https://github.com/alvarobrey) (like [this page!](https://github.com/alvarobrey/alvarobrey.github.io)) for whoever might find them useful, and contribute to third-party repos.

When I'm not coding, you can probably find me playing [disc golf](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disc_golf) or video games, messing around with a 3d printer, playing with my dog, or trying to automate physical things with [Home Assistant](https://www.home-assistant.io/).
